Forbidden Acts During Umrah and Ihram: Expiation Required

Many fall into the forbidden things of Umrah without knowing it. Umrah in Sharia terminology means visiting the Sacred Mosque, and regarding its ruling, there are those who say that it is obligatory, such as Ibn Hanbal and Al-Shafi’i, based on the Almighty’s saying, “And complete the Hajj and the Umrah for God…” and among them are those who see it as a Sunnah, such as Malik Ibn Anas. And Abu Hanifa, based on the fact that the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, when he was asked about Umrah and whether it is obligatory, said: “No, and if you perform Umrah it is better for you

But whether it is a Sunnah or an obligation, its virtue is very great. Umrah to Umrah is an atonement for what came between them. It was reported in Sunan Ibn Majah on the authority of the Prophet Muhammad that he said: “The fighter in the path of God, the Hajj, and the Umrah pilgrim, a delegation of God called them, and they answered him, and they asked him, and he gave them.” Among the hadiths is also what he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever circumambulates the Kaaba and does not raise one foot or place the other, God will record for him a good deed, remove a sin from him and raise him a rank thereby

So what are they? What are the things forbidden for men and women performing Umrah?

Shaving or removing hair in any way

This is in implementation of the Almighty’s saying: “And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal reaches its place.” It is absolutely not permissible for a male or female Umrah pilgrim to cut or shave his hair. The majority of scholars have included body hair in general, and if the pilgrim does that, he must pay a ransom unless the hair fell out against his will. It is also permissible to pluck or remove the hair if its presence leads to harm. , but ransom is also required.

Nail cutting

The pilgrim must cut his nails before entering ihram, and it is not permissible for him to cut any of them during his ihram. However, if the nail is broken and the rest is cut off, there is no ransom or prohibition on him, but cutting the nails before entering ihram is better.

Apply perfume to clothes or the body

It is not permissible for the Umrah pilgrim to perfume himself with any kind of perfume, whether on his clothes or on his body, whether it is good or strong. An exception to this is perfumes that were used on the body or hair before entering ihram. Aisha, may God be pleased with her, says: “I used to look at the white musk in the corners of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” May God bless him and grant him peace, and it is forbidden. An exception to this is also made if the paint is for treating the body and has a smell, then there is no sin here.

Engagement and marriage

It is not permissible for the pilgrim during the period of ihram to get married, get engaged, or otherwise, and it is not permissible for him to have sexual intercourse with desire, whether by touching, kissing, or anything else. Intercourse is the touching of a man’s skin with a woman’s skin with desire, and this is in implementation of the words of God Almighty: “There shall be no obscenity, no obscenity, and no quarreling over matters.” Pilgrimage. The scholars have agreed that intercourse is one of the preliminaries of intercourse, and based on this, the prohibition of intercourse during ihram can be measured.

Kill hunting ground

One of the things forbidden during Umrah for men and women is hunting in the wild, as God Almighty says: (And hunting on earth is forbidden to you as long as you are in a state of sanctuary). This includes helping to hunt animals for food, even by trickery, advice, and the like. However, if the hunt is done before entering ihram, there is nothing wrong with eating it, and he said. Some scholars also introduced a prohibition on killing insects, reptiles, and the like, except to prevent serious harm.

Umrah prohibitions for men

There are prohibitions for the male pilgrim, but not the woman, and they are:

Wear tailored clothes
What is meant is clothing tailored to the shape of the limbs, whether socks, shirt, trousers, trousers, etc., but it is permissible for him to tighten a belt around his waist, and it is preferable to wear sandals, and if he does not find any, he can wear slippers.

Cover the head
It is not permissible for the pilgrim to cover his head or face with something close to them, such as a turban, a hat, a handkerchief, or something else, but he can seek shade from the heat with something far from his head, such as something paper, an umbrella, a tent, or something else.

Umrah taboos for women

There are things that a woman performing Umrah is forbidden from, or that she should beware of, if she desires to obtain the full reward, God willing, and they are:

Thus, we have learned about the prohibitions of Umrah for both men and women, which must be avoided in order for the Umrah to be valid and acceptable, God willing, taking into account that if one falls into any of the previous prohibitions without intention or for a strong excuse, then there is no blame, and the ransom can be paid, which is charity by feeding 6 poor people or fasting. 3 days or a ritual sacrifice by slaughtering a sheep without sin, but whoever does it intentionally is sinful and must pay the ransom as well.
